A larva of the small hive beetle (Aethina tumida, Nitidulidae). Larvae cause damage by destoying combs and making honey un-usable. This is a new pest recently introduced from Africa (first reported in Florida in 1998). It has been repeatedly introduced into Michigan the last few years from Georgia or Florida, but has not been widely established here yet.*
