Someone left a broken frame out in Sept and bees and wasps are robbing honey from the comb. Amazingly there is some aggression, but not much between the wasps and bees, probably because this comb was outside a hive and it is fair game for both groups. Sept 11, 2002 (!).

This year western Washington state has had what could only be called a drought during late spring into mid-summer. Our honey bees attack hornets, wasps and yellow jackets when there is a honey-based food source. This is extremely unusual for us and the interesting thing is that the other species actually give way to the attacks.
By the way, this photo gallery is stupendous! Thanks loads.
