The European paper wasps (Polistes dominulus, Vespidate) will nest anywhere they please. Here they are nesting inside a horizontal metal pipe (diameter about 3 inches). MSU apiary, USA. August 5, 2002.

Yep! these wasps decided to make a home right inside my bedroom window seal. I actually enjoy watching them and seeing their nest grow. However, Since I let their nest grow another pack of European paper wasps invaded the cracks under our roof. From what I have gatherd, wasps in- general are good for biocontrol and I would assume a industrious worker. I have decided to not use chemicals to spray their nest but rather knock them down when they propagate too much. Thank you for the pictures. They are very nice.
