A newly emerged Apis dorsata worker. Notice the small mite on the thorax -- this is the notorious 'lesser' mite (Tropilelaeps clarae), a large pest in China and other Asian countries on Apis mellifera. It jumped host from dorsata to mellifera there.

Where does this mite usually found on the bee? The thorax? Is it similar to the Trachea mite here in the USA?

Is this mite related to the varrora mite found in Africa that recently made its way to the US? They look very simmilar.

No, this mite is not related to Varroa (different genus). about 1/4 of the size also (see one picture with two mites together).
